Why Simply Abolishing All Religion Wouldn’t Work
Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today…
Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace…
Religion has been know to bring turmoil, war, strife and division throughout history and cause radical shifts in countries. This brings an obvious attraction to modern day mentality to simply do away with the traditions of all Religion and simply live life on a whim. But it is not necessarily Religion that has caused these hardships. It is the human embodiment and distortion of Religion which has done so. Throughout history there has been the Crusades, the Armenian slaughter, the KKK and so many more numerous genocides/wars done in the name of God. What brings speculation however, is the ironic case that those which were murdering were not acting very Christ-like. Leaving the question in the air…Were they actually Christians? And if we pose that question, then: Was saying they were killing people in the name of “God” really just an excuse to defend themselves/get their way in murder?
Regardless, this does not justify their actions in the slightest. It does however bring up the issue of association. Why am I, a modern day Christian; linked to these murderers? Why do I have to defend my Christianity in the scope of the Crusades? The idea that it is because of them that we have our Christian faith is not valid. That’s like saying I have to apologize that an ancestor 20 generations ago used to hit his wife and abuse her. It may be true…But it’s not me! So many people would love to abolish religion and have a world of peace. But image a world without it?
Imagine There’s No Charity
The Catholic Church is the largest charitable organization in the world. Followed by the gathering of denomination Christian churches. If there was no Jesus, there would be no Charity. Jesus himself said TRUE Religion was to take care of the widows and the orphans, and he also said:
Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
This meant Jesus was sooooo serious about feeding the homeless he would base your salvation on it! So nowadays Churches everywhere have soup kitchens, missions fields all over the world and dig up new wells in foreign counties for homeless people. Not like TOM’s who is a for profit organization who gives kids shoes they don’t need and takes jobs away from the locals.
Imagine There’s no Truth
The great philosophers of all time like Neitzche and Plato even the modern day philosophers like Jay-Z and Frank Ocean have plagued our society with questions about absolute truths. Is the truth really the truth? What may be true for one person may not be true for another. I like to call funny business like that perspective, or experience. Imagine a world where there is no absolute truth. You may say, hey; I graduated college! I have my diploma! And your jerk of a super spiritual boss could say, well that is your truth, man. I’m experiencing a different truth. You may say wow! I bought a new house! I have the deed! Someone else may walk in and say (a-la Chris Columbus) I live here now cuz I feel that’s my truth)
Scripture offers an absolute truth. God is absolutely Good. You are absolutely wonderful and perfectly made. The devil is absolutely always trying to steal, kill and destroy everything in our lives, but God is always protecting us. This leaves no room for opinions of fluffy feelings. You may FEEL bummed out. But the TRUTH is God is always faithful and will always make things better. Something may have gone wrong in your life but the TRUTH is that was the devil not God and God will restore you. Truth, is impossible without Religion. True, Religion.
Imagine There’s No Peace
Jesus said Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Since the ascension of Jesus right through today the point of Religion has been mis-shapen and distorted to mean rules and shackles. Regulations and restrictions. In actuality it signifies recovery. It is in actually a return to God, to bring you to peace with the one who created you. Imagine a world where no one knows who they are? Everyone wants to be the best because no one knows that God created them to be unique and the best in their own calling. This seems primitive in it’s explanation and the phrase, we don’t need religion to have God comes to mind. But let me ask you this…
Can mankind make an image of a God and be convinced That the God they imagine in their mind is a God that exists? But if God made man, how can man make a God? -Beautiful Eulogy
Peace can be subjective. How do you see peace? If you see it as an EDM concert you most likely do not want peace, you want controlled chaos. Allow me to explain. Peace by definition means freedom from disturbance; quiet and tranquility. It means freedom from or the cessation of war or violence. The only way to have peace in the world is to start by having it within yourself. How do I quiet myself in such a loud world? How do I remain tranquil? Well I will just let you think about that one.
Imagine There’s No Love
True love is giving up your selfishness. Being self sacrificial for another person because you care that much. It doesn’t matter if they return the favor, you are willing to keep giving up your own heart, mind, body, or soul, even if it hurts. There is no greater, more perfect picture of that, than what most consider the largest Religion in the world. Jesus. Not the religion but the Jewish carpenter who was beaten and tortured on the most advance torture device of his time, humiliated by his followers and hung on a tree to suffocate in his own blood. He did it all knowing full and well we wouldn’t accept Him. Then after waiting 3 days (because Jewish people believed the soul departed from the body after 3 days) he rose up from his grave (as if to prove a point that death was insignificant and petty). He gave instructions to a handful of people to tell everyone about what happened. He didn’t say tell everyone about me. He said make disciples and tell them about the love I’ve shown you, the healing, the forgiveness, tell them about heaven, and do it like it’s your job! I’ll send some help! That is the Jesus of Christianity. Not the dude on a cross with a rag over his privates (there was no rag btw). So next time you think about imagining a world without Religion, imagine one without Charity, Truth, Peace, Love, and Forgiveness.
