Political Rant: Build Kindness Not Walls
It’s reminiscent of Vietnam. Rallies, riots, police and political music. This is a highly charged and emotional election. My generation is looking to stand for something. I remember when that something was love. Freedom and peace. Today it seems to be something I can’t quite put my finger on. College kids want free stuff, others want some utopian America. But at what cost? All in all, the common thread seems to be, we’re all angry.
A generation on fire for change, immovable in their compromise and unstructured in their solutions seems to be the commonality. Whether it be the leftist moral steamroller crew of Bernie Sanders or the “right wing” hypocritical nonsense of Donald Trump I cannot seem to wrap my mind around what politics has become.
It seems clear cohesive thought and being morally decisive is a thing of the past. Where on the one hand, Trump can get away with physical harm being done to numerous people at his campaigns without lawful intervention, Sanders seems to be able to run a campaign short of mathematical sense. What sort of political polarity have we come to in this country?
Claiming that by only taxing the 1% (and a couple little other cuts) and waving his grandpa wand he will be able to fix our entire evil corporate government. Ironically the man who is “helping the middle class”, filled with all sorts of religious people is also the man who is for full term abortion. But for Christians, morality has nothing to do with our next president, apparently.
We’ve built a political culture which stains us. I heard a comedian say last night,(I wish I remembered his name) “Me coming out as a Republican is almost as bad as me coming out as gay in the 80s!” That’s a joke now, please don’t take it literally but it’s illustrating a point. That diversity of thought and ideas is at an all time low in America. My opinions on Trump and Sanders have been attacked more than my opinions on Jesus in the past 6 months! Because everyone knows you don’t target someones religion, unless you’re an atheist. Then you attack Christians only.
We’ve become an offense driven country, easily offended by any sentence we read on Facebook, any wrong ad we see, and anything a politician says. I’ve said this before, Mizzou students were actually able to call the police if you offended them! That sounds contrary to the constitution. I believe in an America where you can say whatever you want but when you do whatever you want, you have to pay the consequences. Like Trump. Say whatever you want, make fun of people. I can’t stop you from being a tool. But the minute you act on it, you should have to pay the consequences.
Ok, excuse my rant. Here is my point.
We will never move forward in this country if we continue arguing in circles about who’s offensive, who’s not, protesting who can talk and who can’t. The only way to move forward is to have basic common decency. To build kindness between differing perspectives not intellectual walls. To allow each other the freedom of expression to say what we want without shutting each other up! Then adding to the dialogue without instigating. To keep our freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom to live out loud! Diversity of thought is the most important form of diversity we have. When we let that go, we become Orwellian. A clone-like society of socialist morons who do the same things, think the same way and never change.
I know I ranted, I’m sure you disagree. I could be wrong about things. Comment and tell me which part you disagreed with, I promise I will further the dialogue without instigating.
