Can We Call Harveywood What It Is? Porn Culture

Harvey Weinstein, Ben Afleck, now there’s Kevin Spacey and so many more are coming out of the woodwork. It’s unbelievable to me that no one has addressed this Harveywood issue from the root cause. Most media coverage takes the moral high-ground to assume there is some mass conspiracy amongst the men of Hollywood, or even men in general; where men are covering up for each other. “Having each others backs” I guess that could be taken literally. Oh gosh. This is a family show. Sorry.

But in all honesty, I don’t see it that way. I see something far more sinister. I see an industry that feeds off of vanity. An industry that makes beauty into a commodity. An industry where the culture is an  a-moral, sensual, sexually free anarchy of a town. Colleagues and industry leaders constantly shout platitudes like “Explore your own sexuality” and “Marriage is old fashioned. Why bother if we really love each other?” even “Sex is just sex, love has nothing to do with it!” So how can they then turn around and fight when the same values they project are being used against them?

OK, BUT PORN?

Right, porn. Have you ever watched Friends? What’s the one running joke through all of the seasons? Jokes about VHS tapes with porn on them. Jokes about Chandler and Monica having made a sex tape. Let’s go further back, who remembers American Pie? (1999) the very first scene of the movie is Jason Biggs watching porn and the entire plot of the movie is driven by that one act.

Hollywood has been making porn mainstream for at least 30 years and we’ve bought into it. There’s a pornhub billboard in time square. Porn stars were models in American Apparel ads for 5 years before the company crashed, but all of this brings me to a revelation.

It’s not porn that’s trying to get into Hollywood, it’s Hollywood that’s trying to glorify porn culture. Why?

THE GLORIFICATION OF PORN CULTURE

The glorification of porn culture in Hollywood is important because it’s the antithesis of everything we believe to be true and good about sex, marriage and love. Mostly, that they are all connected. That we need one to have them all. Porn is a compartmentalizer, a dehumanizer and a necessary tool of Hollywood to make them more money as they sell what they sell best…sex.

Myself as a Christian, I believe that sex is interlocked with marriage, I believe that love is interlocked with sex. Porn and Hollywood similarly shatter these concepts. Hollywood speaks openly against it, and porn practices against it. There are many more dark sides to the porn industry that I won’t go into but the point is that it suits the agenda of Hollywood.

SO WHAT ABOUT HARVEYWOOD?

I’m not claiming mass collusion between the two industries. I’m not some conspiracy theorist. I’m simply claiming that if you look up the word opportunist in google, it will book you a flight first class to Hollywood. Harvey Weinstein and all of these despicable humans are a symptom of the Hollywood culture. One that allows for moral indecency, selective sexual harassment discretion,  and one that alienates morality in every aspect of the town. From social lives to writers room. There is a monopoly on immorality in Hollywood and that’s how Harvey became who he was. There were too many similar to him. Too many willing to play by his rules.

WHAT DO WE DO?

I’m not gonna be one of those bloggers that imposes my morality on you and tells you that if you don’t do x,y and z then you’re not a good person. For that go here. If you want to be able to think for yourself, then here is my suggestion.

It’s not likely that we can boycott every piece of work that is morally reprehensible or off base. If that were the case, we would just be watching paint dry for fun. What is very possible to do is to swap the blatantly a-moral shows, movies and entertainment (or entertainers) for more suitable entertainment. Things that actually take into account your soul, spiritual life or family. Or maybe just things that aren’t preaching religious liberal dogma the entire time.

Swap those things out for more sincere entertainment and your quality of life will go up. You have my cultureandgod gurantee! Also, actively and avidly support new, up and coming entertainers, shows, media, and movies that you think are great family, faith, or clean content. They always need the most help.

In a nutshell, porn is similar to Hollywood because of their need to make money and destroy family values, the only difference is that porn films it and Hollywood acts it out and well…doesn’t film it.
