4 Reasons Why the Cubs Will Inspire You to Achieve Your Dreams Again
After 108 years, the Chicago Cubs have won the World Series Championship. Despite the decades of lost hope and doubt, the team persevered to accomplish their goal. It was truly a dream come true that I witnessed in my hometown of Chicago. As I was witnessing this historic moment, I was signing copies of my newly published book, accomplishing a dream of my own. There are a few undeniable parallels between this Major League team and myself in this year. What would be your World Series win or major accomplishment in life?
Here are a few thoughts for those who want to pursue their goals and dreams for 2017 and beyond:
You learn who’s really for you.
This was probably the hardest realization to come by in my process to publishing my book, Journey to 30. You try to excuse it when you notice people who you’ve supported don’t come through to support your endeavors, especially something you’re called to or passionate about. It hurts. I will say that although you’ll notice strangers supporting you in place of that number of people you thought you could count on, be patient and don’t take things too personally.
We can’t afford to get distracted; pray for the Lord to send you the help that you need. If He gave you the idea, He will provide the help and the audience that it’s for. Do this for them and not for sheer validation. You’re already great because God chose you to carry this dream, now pursue it despite the haters.
Oh, you’ll want to quit, but…
Like the Cubs have learned this season, quitting is not an option anymore. You’re on this journey towards your dream and it’s time to grow. The Lord dealt with me plenty of times in this year to become a published author. It’s been a dream for years to write a book but I would always give up before really hitting the ground running. This time had to be different because I wanted to contribute something that would inspire others to not give up. So if that’s the case, how could I?
You will have those feelings of calling it quits; even after the goal has been reached because the accomplishment is just new foundation for the next goal that you’re going to reach. I know, you may not want to hear that, but it’s the truth! God works on us to take us from glory to glory and faith to faith. It’s going to take some more effort to keep going, so don’t get too comfortable in the process; when I did I got uneasy and had to get back to the work. I’m positive this will be the same mindset for the Chicago Cubs in light of their win as they look into the near future.
You spark other people’s fires.
I cannot tell you how many times someone said that I’ve inspired them this year. That’s awesome to hear and glory to God for using me to do something I’m passionate about to help others. I have a passion for singles, writing and the determination more than ever to be great. I challenged myself even more to start and finish a 30 day vlog series leading up to the book’s debut date– my birthday on October 28th. There were several times when people would comment that they were inspired and encouraged to pursue something they may have been sitting on or simply to know that they could do whatever it is they have in mind to do.
Take it from me, I didn’t do anything extra special to make this happen, I just determined in my mind and spoke it into existence that the book would get done and God stepped in to make it happen. It has definitely increased my faith and I know it will help your faith. As I was inspired to dream bigger this year, I encourage you to do the same in 2017; get to writing the vision now.
The process is worth it.
I wrote this as I prepared to sign copies of pre-ordered books to mail out this weekend. The fact that I’m a published author is still very fresh to me and it means a lot. The fact that the Cubs are finally on top in professional baseball is an amazing accomplishment. What we can all be reminded from their win is that the process is indeed worth it. You come out a stronger, wiser and more aware of what you’re capable of accomplishing. Trust that God hears you and is preparing you for that season of the big win—the accomplished dream. But what if there’s more that He requires of you in the meantime? This season isn’t to be wasted waiting, but learning and preparing. Whatever your process is towards a dream, business or self improvement you are more than capable and free to pursue it now. Embrace the process and as I say in my book, enjoy your journey.
Despite the obstacles, support or lack thereof, I encourage you to pursue your dream unapologetically. Order a signed copy of Journey to 30, otherwise the book is available in these platforms.
