3 VMA Highlights No One is Talking About: Please God!?
I’m sure you’ve heard about Miley and Nikki’s fake fight, and Kanye announcing his run for presidency (I wonder if he is a Republican). I’m even sure you’ve heard about and seen Justin Beiber shedding some tears. But what are the things that you missed this year that NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT?! It could be that 3 of the artists I cited as my artists to watch earlier in the year made it onto the VMA’s, but I wont brag! Or it could be these cool little tidbits.
Justin Beiber Giving a Word to the MTV Generation
During his Beiber. is. Back energy packed performance, the Beibs took a moment to instill in his young and now not so young fans a bit of wisdom. Giving them a tidbit of what he has learned during this “life change” he has gone through, which if you ask me is nothing more than God working in the young kids heart. He stops the music and darkens the room to hear a brief voice over say:
“Life is a journey. Sometimes a battle. Always the unexpected. Sometimes you focus on the destination and forget to focus on that journey. When you fall it allows you to get up stronger. It allows you not to lean on your own understanding, give in to faith… Believe in something bigger than yourself and find your purpose.”
Some misquoted “give in to fate” However this whole quote is drawn from scripture. Surrenduring to God yadda, yadda.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5
Immediately after Beiber flys up in the air acceding as the beat thumps away and he ends speechless. Renewed.
Tori Kelly Gives the Most Rocking Performance of the Night
Can we just talk about Tori for a second? I feel like she’s not getting enough hype. She comes out of nowhere, has better vocals (and better musicianship) than every artist thats probably in that arena, chucks her guitar half way through her song and nails every note! Just because there is no drama around her she gets no play?! Typical MTV. I’m starting to wonder what this girl can’t do. By the way, she writes her own music and her idea of afterparty is by far the most classy thing I saw on the VMAs. The Rocker of the Night Award goes to you Tori!
21 Pilots Can’t Fly A$AP Airlines
I don’t listen to A$AP, and I don’t know who’s idea it was to put these two together but it just didn’t work. MTV gave a rock group a 2:00 minute time slot and gave glam-pop Katy Perry wannabe Demi Lovato around 6 minutes to essentially give our youth a lesson in the art of striptease. I don’t know. I guess I’m getting old. However 21 Pilots are the band to watch, they are cut from the same grunge, establishment hating cloth as Kurt, Beatles, Guns & Roses and all the rock and roll greats. Giving these kids a shared 2 minute slot with the vulgar likes of A$AP Rocky was an insult to their creativity. It did get the job done though. People know who they are now. Mark my word. These kids are here to stay, as for Rolling Stone magazine dissing them? Well, Rolling Stone has been anything but a Rolling Stone lately, they’ve been more like a Flat Pebble.
