This 13 Minute Film Will Make You Re-Think Marriage
We’ve all heard the 50% divorce rate statistic. We all know someone who’s been deterred from marriage and at times even a serious relationship because of the 50/50 odds of failure, but surprisingly theres a cultural downswing in divorce. Divorce rates have been declining since the 1990’s according to the Huffington Post and a study done by the New York Times. This is an incredible stat but it doesn’t make marriage any easier.
LAST CALL | A SHORT FILM
It’s showcased perfectly in “Last Call”. A short film Written and Directed by Benjamin Elias. Produced by Elias Gonzalez. The ominous tones of the film showcase a universe where one mans duality struggles with faithfulness and satisfaction. This seems to be society’s story. Glancing at true love and true responsibility while his eyes are set on momentary compensation.
I was mesmerized by the interviews of real couples who’s stories were pushing the narrative forward. Some of us don’t have to imagine fighting a personal battle to decide between ending the trust of the person closest to us or ending the perceived freedom we once had. We’ve already crossed so many lines to get to this point. But what happens from here can change everything.
Between the plot and the production value I was invited into a world of uncomfortably difficult decisions and beautifully nostalgic memories. “Last Call” is marriage on the rocks with a squeeze of lime. Watch the full short film below and visit UNYC here.
